ABOUT TYLER JAMES PROCTOR
Tyler’s curiosity with sound was piqued at the age of two, when his musical family gifted him with a Fisher Price mic and guitar set. Then, in the Third Grade, his love affair with all things aural was cemented when he was snaffled out of naptime to sing a solo in the Sixth Grade play.
The terrible teens hit and Tyler was wired for sound, honing his voice and guitar skills with a barrage of lessons and tutorials, including chamber choir, and endless hours of practice with his ax-wielding uncle, a successful singer-songwriter in Nashville.
Studying film for three years in high school, the highlight of each project for Tyler was doing audio; the way the aural landscape so drastically changed the mood of a piece seduced him and connected the dots between his love of cinema and sound.
Fast-forward to the age of 18, when Tyler left the countrified confines of rural Pennsylvania to take up a sought-after position at the prestigious Australian Institute of Music, where he studied a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a major in Audio Technology.
Coming of age in the sun, sand and surf of Sydney, Tyler performed in numerous bands during his days at university. His first job in the industry led him to a national TV network where he quickly honed his audio production skills in this fast-paced environment. Since then he’s worked for a string of major TV networks and boutique post houses, while also kicking ass and taking names as a voice-over talent to be reckoned with.
After a decade in the business, Tyler found his way back to the US of A, not only a dual citizen but one of the industry's hottest and hungriest young sound designers. 18 months on the East-Coast mixing/sound designing/dialogue editing for the likes of Nat Geo, PBS, ESPN, Discovery Networks a slew of ads and a few award-winning documentaries and short films on multiple Emmy-nominated teams... He now finds himself back to the surf and sun in Los Angeles! A full-time gig for New Wave Entertainment - mixing & finishing for Sony Entertainment, and rocking out mixes @ tinkle-in-the-sync-studios for a special new partnership with Image Factory DC.
